Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge # 6 - Gone With the Wind

When every I think of Gone With The Wind  this dress comes to mind. Granted my memories of this movie are from high school. But this dress is also so vivid in my mind thanks to Carol Burnett and her Comedy show. If you have never seen this skit you must Carol is a genius!

My inspiration card is from the picture above but was inspired by the dress she mad out of her curtains. I added the tassels for a little reminder of the curtains.

I hope you all enjoy re-visiting an old classic. I had a great time and I must say I can appreciate this show even more now that I am older. I think my kids will enjoy watching this classic as well. They love old movies.

Kristina's color challenge #30

Another Great Color Challenge form Kristina! 

My heart get a little warm and fuzzy when I get to use "Old Olive" in color challenges. I think this is one of my favorite colors of green ever. "Old Olive" compliments so many colors... "Purely Pomegranate", "Rose Red" and "Pumpkin Pie" are some of my favorites to use with it.  I love doing Kristina's challenges for the very reason I would never think to use some of the color combo's she presents to us. I probably would have omitted the "Certainly" and just lightened up the "Old Olive"for a second green. Thanks Kristina for always push me.. I {HEART} it when I achieve the goal. I think the very first pack of solid paper I purchased when I became a demo was "Sahara Sand" how fun to dig back into this color for the challenge.

My First Mojo Monday (#60)

OK So I decided to take of a few more challenges. I had seen Julee's "Mojo Monday" challenge before but just didn't know if I had the time to take on anymore. My sweetie Sankari always makes the cutest card from Julee's M.M. Challenges so this week I decided to hunt for a few new things to inspire my creativity and Mojo came to mind. So this one's for you Sankari. I am not usually one who likes to do a challenge with someone else's template, so this challenge lived up to it's name for me. I like not having to be confined to a specific idea but have the freedom to work on a project until  it becomes a work of art. I think I will take on a few of these challenges to really help me grow as a paper artist. 

I think the poinsettia is the first thing that came to my mind on this card. I really wanted to use "Real Red" so that it was a deep red color. I love to add dimension to my cards so I was visualizing the flowers 3-D of course. I then got out my S.U. Christmas paper(Dashing) from last year so the reds would match. I layer out all the patterns and found one that was not to distracting from the flower image and had a couple of greens to play with.

I used a few dots of glitter glue in the center of the Embossed flowers. Thanks to my little 5 year old I have re-discovered my paper crimper. (he loves to use up all my scraps and has me make him strips of paper to crimp) I cut out folded leave shapers and ran the leaf through the crimper on an angle for the leaves. And what card is complete with our juice yummy ribbon. 

Who doesn't love a little jewelry on a card or on their person.. I DO, I DO.....(hand raised high in the air) Green was the perfect fit. It added such a great little punch to the card. Red would have distracted from the flowers...

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge # 5 - Memoirs of a Geisha

Happy Saturday Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge movie goers. This week Sankari and I have pick "Memoirs of a Geisha" This Beautiful story might have even been a book you have all read in a book group. But this story is visually stunning. The life of a Geisha is not an easy one. They are subject to making other happy their life. And give up a life of their own. Most girls were sold into the Geisha life in hopes of them having a better life. 

You have to visit SANKARI'S blog and see her amazing, amazing cards. They will blow your socks off!

I used the powerful color of the lips of a Geisha for the main base color with black to represent the charcoal and the white all over face. Gold to accent the purchase price of the Geisha. I wanted to create a piece of silk from the beautiful kimono's. I use mulberry paper with a faint stamped image in Going Grey then wadded up the paper and smoothed it out. I would've love to tie my ribbon like a traditional Kimono buy you know.  A simple Sentiment was added that reflects the appearance of a Geisha "Beautiful".

 


I couldn't have a naked card on the inside so I did the whole Geisha from head to toe. I have had this stamp set for Ever and finally had a project to use it on. Happy Happy days.

I am totally making lots of these and hanging them from my chandelier over my kitchen table. I will post a shot when I get it all decorated.

Kraft, Kiwi Kiss, Whisper White card stock, Kiwi Kiss double-sided Satin Ribbon, Brads, Holidays & Wishes, Winter Post Stamp Sets.

3-D ornaments:

Ski Slope paper Designer Series Paper, Kiwi Kiss, Riding Hood Red Taffeta Ribbon, Scallop Punch. The best glue for this project is Mono all-purpose white glue. There is no pinching until it dies is hold instantly.

I picked up a few extra goodies at Stampin' Up's Convention this year. So I though I would share of course. You can't buy the SU Lip-balm and pens so this is your chance. Leave me a comment on what inspires you when you are creating.

Kristina's Color Challenge #28

Little close up of the "Emerging Colors" you can find a great tutorial here.

I really had a hard time deciding it I wanted to have the orange scallops on the side of the card or not. My left overs were just staring me in the face a wanted to desperately to be used. Which do you like better of these to cards. With or with our the orange scallops?

If you haven't done this technique you must give it a try it so fun.

Stamp Recipe:

Card stock and Ink - Pumpkin pie, Whisper White, Taken with Teal, Elegant Eggplant,      Versamark pad and pen.

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge # 4 - Grease

I decided to go with the big "Sleep-over" seen. When Sankari and I were talking about this movie I had Frenchie's hair in curlers and pineapple hair from the prom come to mind. I really thought it would be fun to re-create paper hair. What is more fun that Girlfriends, food, and movies. WATCHING "Grease" WITH GIRLS OF COURSE. Because we like to sing and dance and be silly. Husbands not so much.

We have had this soundtrack playing in our house for weeks now. My kids have always love this movie and music. It seems like they are always learning a song from this soundtrack for something or other for school. Last year in "U.S. History" my son's learned about music from all the era's and the preformed a few song in costume for parents. This week it was my DD turn they were learning songs and action to preform at "Barns and Noble" for a school fundraiser. When my kids were little we would ballroom dance to this music around the house. I was always had to be the guy partner so know I am not a very good female partner. I always want to lead. When I was a kid I was a girl for the "50" probably 3 times I just loved wearing mu mom's Original Poodle skirt and ensemble. In Junior high red "Keds" were my favorite as well. I hope you all had a great time watching this movie and making a few memories with you kids.

 MY DD WAS A POODLE SHIRT GIRL for one of her halloween costumes this year. It warmed my heart. :)

p.s. I am with Sankari DH I loved Olivia Newton John. We had a 8-track of hers and I loved to listing to it. I also loved her in "ZANADU" jump over and catch the 80'S fever. O.K. I'm an "80'S" girl... I remember the year "Grease" came out I wanted to see it so bad!! But my mom said it was not appropriate. So I had to wait. I was so say because the little girls down the street got to see it and had the RECORD ALBUM(do you remember what a record is?)he,he! 

Who doesn't love a good girls night. I just had one 2 week ago with a few dear friends. We  watched "Regarding Jane" what a great movie. We had a good chat and a relaxing night.

My DD and I thought we should add a cigarette but we though that it probably wouldn't be appropriate. And if I added earrings you might not even see them it's hard enough to see the ears. A girls night is a great party for little girls. We had one for my DD's 7th b-day party. All you need is a good movie, curling irons, nail polish, p.j's, food, great friends for help with all the girls.
